This course is designed to equip students with foundation knowledge of the Constitution and the role it plays in the legal system. It will also identify the various Constitutional Rights and Civil Liberties of citizens and how these are protected. The Judiciary as a main canon of Constitutional Law is also examined.

This course equips students with a general understanding of the law relating to the rights and obligations of purchasers and sellers as provided under the Sale of Goods Act, the Hire Purchase Act and the Consumer Protection Act.  An examination is also made of the legal basis of businesses such as partnerships and companies. The legality of negotiable instruments is also explored as well as issues relating to VAT.

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the law as it relates to criminal activity by outlining the main ingredients of a crime and identifying actions regarded as crimes as opposed to moral wrongs. An understanding is also provided of the crimes of strict and vicarious liability as well as defenses available in law.

This course provides students with a general understanding of the law relating to Contractual Agreement by examining the classification of contracts as well as their essential characteristics. It also explores the rules relating to the contents of contract and how they are discharged. The various remedies available for Breach of Contracts are likewise examined.

This course provides students with an understanding of the law relating to liability for civil wrongs that may not be the subject of a contract. The liability for injuries suffered through negligence is particularly examined together with nuisance and occupiers liability. Special rules such as the rule under Rylands v Fletcher are also explored.

This course is designed to provide further knowledge of the law relating to tortuous Liability by examining non-property wrongs and damage involving trespass to the person, Defamation, vicarious and employers’ liability, remedies and defenses.

This course focuses on enhancing students’ understanding of the rules relating to punishment and sentencing for crimes. The various theories behind punishment of the offender are examined as well as the possible types of sentences. The extent of the powers of the police on arrest detention and bail are also explored in this course.

This course is designed to lay the groundwork for the commencement of Legal Studies through the examination of Legal theorists and the various definitions of Law.  The development of Law and its many sources is also a focus of this course and an awareness of the function of Law in society as opposed to moral rules is provided.
