This course is designed for individuals who in their professionals capacities are required to perform administrative functions.  This will be especially useful for small business owners, consultants, supervisors and managers in both private and public sector organizations.

This course focuses on the basic principles of urgent care, which involves triaging, medical assessment and treatment.  It demonstrates the applicability of these concepts to routine health care provided by nurses in polyclinics and other health care delivery settings as well as in emergency and mass casualty events. The course focuses on the management of high risk and vulnerable patient groups such as paediatric, geriatric and those with specific clinical complaints (trauma and non-trauma) in the targeted healthcare situations. It therefore enhances participants’ application of appropriate communication skills, especially interviewing techniques, other procedures for managing the waiting area, care giving and effective documentation of the health care process. The course will assist participants to develop the clinical and managerial skills required to implement an urgent care system in general practice, extended hours and fast track.
