This course is compulsory for all learners of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology. It is designed to sensitise learners to the importance of communication and expose them to the fundamental skills necessary for interacting effectively, at a personal level and professional level. Emphasis is placed on developing the critical practical skills necessary to produce clear, professional standard documents for work purposes utilizing available technologies.

Learners are required to prepare a Portfolio containing evidence of assessments undertaken. This will be a useful and important reference tool for the world of work.

Learners who successfully complete this course may also have the option of pursuing the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council’s Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) in Core Skills: Communication, Level 1.

This course is developed as a blended learning experience and should be taught in conjuction with face-to-face teaching. It covers topics pretaining to what is law, types of laws and the function of Law. It focuses on Contract Law and pays special attention to the legal formation of various types of business entities.
