It is paramount in industry that maintenance operations be conducted in a safe environment. This entry-level course focuses on the legal requirements of both the employee and employer as it relates to health and safety. It also exposes the student to the fundamentals of hand tools, fastening techniques used in mechanical fitting as well as introduces power transmission belts and chain drives. The target group of this course is, those persons who are interesting in pursuing a career as a mechanical fitter.

The aim of this course is to expose students to Computer Aided Design. The focus will be on using the computer to produce geometrical and engineering workshop drawings to accepted international standards. All drawings will be two-dimensional and will feature most of the basic AutoCAD commands.

The course provides the student with the basic theoretical skills in safety, measuring and marking out hand tools, material and heat treatment and the lathe and drill at an introductory level.

It’s important that the manufacturing industry have competent machinists for the survival of the industry, this course is in response to that need. This course introduces the potential machinists to the knowledge of milling, advance-turning operations, along with shaping procedures. It also introduces the principles governing Limits and fits, as well as material removal. The target group of this course is those persons who are interesting in pursuing a career as a mechanical fitter or those going on to higher learning at the technician’s level.

This course introduce students to the Engineering Science concepts of Units, Forces, Stress and Moments through calculations. Students will be provided with  a sound knowledge of Units, Forces Stress and Moments which would allow them to carry out basic calculations and have an understanding of how these calculations can be apply to mechanical maintenance work.
