This course is compulsory for all students of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic’s Barbados Youth Advance Core program and is designed to sensitise, encourage and motivate students to learn and adopt the fundamental skills and behaviours necessary for interacting and performing effectively, both personally and professionally. Emphasis is placed on developing the knowledge and general skills necessary for any common work environment.
Students will be exposed to relevant industry standards in their field of study, cover causation factors of accidents, basic elements of safety management and risk management.
Students who complete this course will also have the option to pursue the Technical and Vocational (TVET) Council’s National Vocational Level 2 qualification, in Occupational Safety and Health.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
From this course, the student will develop their skills in the application of productive and design software by using word processing software to create common documents, to produce properly structured and formatted business documents and using spreadsheet software to perform a variety of financial tasks The areas of ICT and their application to industry will also be studied.
