This course emphasizes techniques used to assist in the selection of assets and the most economical ways to finance asset acquisition.  Cost of capital will be highlighted.  Emphasis is placed on working capital management, as well as decisions for selecting sources of financing corporate activities.  Corporate structure is investigated and dividend policy will be addressed.  Corporate financial management is emphasised, in particular how the financial managers’ decisions add value to shareholder wealth through investment financing.

 

This course covers the three major international financial markets; the foreign exchange market, the Eurocurrency market, and the international equity and bond market.  The course also examines international financial decisions including operations, structure and valuation.  The Breton Woods system is considered.  The technique of arbitrage, (simultaneous trading in different markets), and its implication will be examined.  The interaction among markets, basic arbitration and funds flow management will be addressed. 

This course identifies and analyses various types of securities.  Valuation tests for bonds/debentures and shares/stocks will be applied, and the performance of the securities markets will be gauged.  The course will also examine trading in currencies and the performance of securities.  Emphasis will be place on the management of investment portfolios, analysis and interpretation of financial information to maximise the efficiency of making investment decisions.

This course enables students to understand the basic concepts in financial economics applied to analyse and manage financial risks.  Emphasis will be placed on the applications by insurers and pension plans. Benefits of all types of insurance will be addressed.  Cash value of life insurance and mortality impact of same will be examined, as well as liability incurred from damage or destroyed property.  Attention will be paid to underwriting and other basic insurance functions as well as to the aspect of finance.  The course also covers evaluation cost and income. Legal, tax considerations, financial constraints, physical and location implications will also be visited.

 

This course introduces the student to the basic elements of finance and to the main areas developed in financial analysis and management.  Insight is given to valuation of both physical and financial assets as well as sources and uses of funds.  Maximized financial structure and financial markets and instruments will be addressed.  The concepts which govern financial activities will be introduced, as well as simple risk and returns, tradeoffs and debt-equity management.  The course will also examine the issuing of securities by corporations and the cost of capital. 

On completion of this course the student should have developed a sound knowledge of financial analysis and management of financial activities.  Emphasis is placed on valuation of physical as well as financial assets.  The course seeks to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of the movement of funds and the tracking of these activities.  An appreciation and understanding of optimal financial structure and markets applications will be achieved.  The student will calculate risk returns, and examine tradeoffs and investing activities.  Debt-equity analysis will be emphasized as well as ways of raising capital.  This course expends on FINC 100 – Principles of Finance I.
