In this course you will study the basics of photovoltaic (PV) technology and systems from system design and load calculation through to the various types of solar panels, batteries and inverters and their suitability in different situations. You will learn about the fundamental technical knowledge of solar electricity necessary for understanding PV technology.
You will study the concepts, tools, techniques, and materials needed to understand systems that convert solar energy into electricity with photovoltaic (PV) technologies. Topics include; solar energy, solar radiation, site assessment, PV system components/configuration, permitting, inspections and commissioning, the basics of electricity, principles of solar irradiance and irradiation.
Additionally, you will learn the ways in which photovoltaic systems are used, how to construct simple PV systems and an explanation of the mechanism that makes the system, together with its benefits and limitations.
You will face particular dangerous hazards when handling PV systems and components. It is important that these risks are identified and mitigated. Therefore health and safety will be explained and safety practices implemented wherever necessary.
