The four-week internship is a requirement for fulfillment of the Associate Degree in Office Administration and Management.  It is intended to expose students to realistic work experience and responsibility so they can apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom.  It is expected that students can be given the opportunity to assist in the day-to-day running of the office.

 

This course exposes students to the microcomputer as an essential tool for acquiring, sourcing and processing information. It incorporates the production of professional documents, development of professional business presentations; analysis of data for management information and effective decision-making; and the compilation of information on customers, inventory and employees.

This course provides an understanding of the role of the office, its design, location and the environmental factors that influence staff performance. It also examines organisational structures, the functions of management and the role of the supervisor/office administrator.

This course highlights the complexities of the employee life cycle.  It focuses on the processes that govern the human resource factors of business, and explores interactions in business. 

This oral presentation provides a learning experience for students in presenting information to their tutors and peers.  It allows further exploration, through independent research, of the concepts taught and issues raised in lectures and incorporates a number of transferable skills such as effective communication, confidence building and self-assessment.

This course incorporates all the techniques and theory of text processing.  It encompasses the fundamental skills necessary to produce simple mailable business documents and builds on these in developing greater competence and knowledge for fast and accurate production of more complex tasks.
