This course introduces the student to the history of microbiology, eucaryotic and prokaryotic call structures and taxonomy. It also covers the diversity of microbes, as well as their nutritional needs growth habits. In addition, the course focuses on the control of microbes by physical and chemical agents, microbial ecology, pathogenicity and epidemiology, preventing nonsocomial infections, human defenses against infectious diseases and major infectious diseases of humans.
