This course offers students an historical overview of the influences that shape Caribbean theatre with special reference to conquest, colonization and independence with an analysis of the classical, traditional, ritual, social realism/yard, calypso and carnival theatre forms and styles, as well as the modern Caribbean playwrights in the diaspora. Students will examine the socio-political context and examine the technical aspects and critically interpret a major work.
