Students will be introduced to the discipline of design management, where they will develop an insight into the role of design, the development of a corporate design agenda and the dynamics of management. This course deals with the exploration of design management theory, and the implementation of design management in the business and commercial sector. Emphasis in this course is on the study of current design and design management practice (North America, Australasia and Europe) across a full range of corporate communications, brand development, interior, retail and environmental design. An analysis will be made of current design use within the CARICOM/CSME economic setting and what policies and strategies from North America, Europe and Australasia are applicable to the Caribbean situation. Approaches that can be developed in creating an indigenous design agenda are explored.
