The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to address the challenges and decisions of a financial nature which they will encounter in their lives. It introduces the concepts and tools which will assist with the management of personal finances, with an emphasis on budgeting as the way to successfully manage income, expenditure, debt and savings. The course will demonstrate the importance of applying this knowledge and cultivating the habits of thrift and diligence from the earliest possible opportunity, whether saving to accumulate an ‘emergency’ fund, to buy a home or to contribute to a retirement fund. The process is the same and will hopefully become second nature after completing the course: set a goal, make a plan, implement the plan, review the outcome and if necessary adjust the plan.
