This course will allow students to appreciate the various factors which impact on soil and water and affect their availability for agricultural use.  It examines the various processes taking place within the soil which influence water availability, nutrient availability, water retention, the effect of microbial activity and the role organic matter plays in nutrient availability and soil productivity.  The effects of soil temperature, tillage and soil erosion on soil and water management are also examined.  The management of soils under different cropping systems is also highlighted.
