This introductory course presents the broad areas of the Environmental Health Discipline. It places heavy emphasis on vector control. It consists of two modules: 

Module 1               Introduction to Environmental Health

This module focuses on the role and functions of the Environmental Health Officer in the health system and in the community. It teaches the basic concepts of Primary Health Care and provides the student with a background on how to coordinate Environmental Health programmes and projects with government agencies, non governmental agencies, private sector organizations and community members for the identification, analysis and solution of problems generated by chemical, physical and biologic agents in the environment.

Module II              Vector Control                       

The prioritization of national public health concerns places vector control at the forefront of education and training in Environmental Health. This module is designed to give the student a comprehensive understanding of the biology of selected vectors and will explore the various aspects of vector surveillance and vector control. It is designed also to provide the student with the skills and practical experiences necessary to monitor and control vectors indifferent communities and outlines the role of government agencies, non-governmental organizations and community members for the achievement of vector control.
