This course introduces the student to the study of gerontology. It is designed to focus the student on the needs of the elderly in states of adaptation and mal-adaptation. It highlights the basic needs of the elderly and specifies nursing interventions that may be necessary to maintain and promote adaptation. It also focuses on factors that disrupt biological and psychological needs, based on actual and potential health problems of the elderly in a variety of environments and health care delivery systems.  It utilizes the Nursing Process in order to develop the related nursing skills.
