This unit elucidates the relationship between the ultra structure of the cell and its constituent biological molecules. The course emphasises the concept that the cell is the fundamental unit of living organism; it expounds the intricate and inextricable link between the bio chemicals and the cells organelles. Consequently, it provides the framework needed to comprehend the functioning of multicellular organisms.

The unit provides an exposition of the relationship between the cellular processes and the control of cellular characteristics. Furthermore, it emphasises how instructions at the micro level can be translated to characteristics, which are visible at the macro level. Cognizant of the application of biological processes to technology, the course elucidates genetic manipulation and its uses.
The Ministry Training and Tertiary Education of Barbados, the Learning and Development Unit, and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), through its Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government (DPIDG), in collaboration with the Resident Coordinator Office in Barbados, as part of the DA Project 2427J, are co-organizing a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop with the objective of presenting the content of UN DESA’s Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the main modules of the toolkits on Changing Mindsets in Public Institutions to Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and on Innovation and Digital Government for Public Service Delivery and the Digital Transformation. The workshop which will be held 20 – 21- 22 – 24 October 2025 in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The toolkits are part of the Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs which was developed by UN DESA/DPIDG. DPIDG’s mission is to advance effective, accountable, and inclusive governance and public institutions for sustainable development, including through innovation, digital government, and digital transformation. The Curriculum on Governance for the SDGs aims to promote critical understanding of sustainable development issues, enhance governance capacity, and strengthen public servants' awareness of their active role in contributing to the achievement of the SDGs. The use of the toolkits, and their contextualized adoption and use by national training institutes can contribute to the strengthening of essential skills in the public sector such as those included in the UN Quintet of Change, namely Changing Mindsets, Innovation, Digital, Data, and Strategic Foresight.
The Ministry of Training and Tertiary Education was established in 2025. The Learning and Development Directorate aims to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Public Service through an integrated human resource development effort aimed at improving individual and organizational work performance. It provides training opportunities grouped according to the level at which civil servants are within the public service. It organizes courses and events providing and facilitating quality training for public officers, enabling the public sector to deliver effective and efficient services.
This course provides a foundation in the fundamental principles of chemistry as they relate to agriculture. Structural features and properties of biomolecules and pesticides are also examined. The theory is supplemented by laboratory sessions.
