This course is designed to introduce students to mechanics as an experimental science, whose laws are based on experimental and deductive evidence. The principles taught are applied to real-world situations. Topics covered include: resolution of forces; concurrent forces in equilibrium; friction; velocity-time and displacement-time graphs; kinematics of motion in a straight line; Newton's laws of motion; linear momentum; connected particles; work done by a constant force; potential and kinetic energy; relationship between power, force and velocity; Hooke's law; motion of a projectile; motion in a horizontal circle with constant speed.

Topics covered include production and use of X-rays, production and use of ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and its use in medicine, computer aided tomography, use of lasers in medicine, radiotherapy, biological effect of radiation, the physics of hearing and the physics of sight.

It provides the student with a description of the various medical and paramedical fields and also the history of medicine and medical records and gives an introduction to Medical Records administration and the development and content of the hospital medical record. The format and content of the medical record in ambulatory care, long term care and rehabilitation facilities are also discussed.
This course covers basic concepts and techniques for managing and maintaining health records. Topics include documentation requirements, abstracting, indices, registers, numbering and filing systems. Other topics include confidentiality, release of information, record retention and security of computerized health information.
This course presents a study of the language of medicine with emphasis on body systems, prefixes, suffixes, root terms, pronunciation and spelling. There is emphasis on the use of surgical instruments and procedures, diseases, laboratory tests, clinical procedures and abbreviations for each system.
This course is a theoretical introduction to transcription equipment and typical medical dictatum. Emphasis is placed on efficient use of equipment, use of reference materials, correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling, editing, proofreading and various report formats.
Students learn to recognize an acceptable format for the typing of medical reports. The student continues the typing of medical reports, body systems and procedures. Students should attain a minimum speed of 50 wpm.
This is a continuation of course METW 1011 in basic metal working skills, which introduces students to more difficult bench work exercises, basic forging, heat treatment and in depth lathe operations.
