This course covers basic elements of the music business, and focuses on giving students a practical understand of skills vital to their survival in competitive music industry. The course focuses on basic promotion skills, the ability to comprehend contracts and their value in the marketplace, along with an overview of copyright, licensing, and aspects of the recording industry.
This course is an introduction to Music for Dancers looking at some of the elements that link music and dance. In providing a variety of musical experiences for the dancers, the course seeks to develop the musical ability of the dancer. The music examined will open students to the art of listening, and the relationship between music and dance through logical and academic reasoning. It is intended to enhance the student’s understanding and appreciation of music both as an art form and as it relates to dance. The course provides a wide range of musical experiences, both practical and theoretical. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to find and create suitable musical accompaniment for various styles of dances.
This course is divided into two sections and aims to introduce non-music majors to the fundamentals of music theory and music performance. Technical students will be introduced to: pitch, duration, basic sight and ear training and performance. In addition performing student will learn the relationship between character and music. Students will learn how to explore and build a song much like you would a monologue whilst exploring themes and moods.
This course is a survey of styles, key composers and important works in Western European music from the 4th to 20th century. The socio-cultural influences on music and its function in the society will also be discussed. The components of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, form, instrumentation and performance practice are examined. These are used as a basis for looking at music divided into the periods of Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th century.

This course covers the history of Caribbean music, jazz music and popular music of the 20th century. Styles, composers, performers, instrumentation and key pieces are examined. Caribbean music is covered in a seven-week module that includes surveys on reggae, calypso, the steel pan, tuk, spouge, and folk. A descriptive research paper on a local performer or composer is done by each student. Both jazz and pop music histories are taught in four-week modules.
The entire training program is made up of of six semesters, throughout these semesters you will be introduced to a number of principles which relate to the operation and service of automobile systems.
