COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This internship is designed to provide the participants with extended practice in the competencies acquired during their academic experience. During the internship, participants will be field-based and must utilise the legislative standards and agreements set out by local and international bodies. The internship facilitates growth and development opportunities in a field-based setting under the supervision of qualified professionals. It necessitates the application of knowledge and skills demanded in the professional field of Port Health. Upon successful completion of the internship, the participants should be able to transition from student to professional and function at an optimal level of competence as Port Health Officers.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of this internship, the student should be able to:
1. Apply the relevant legislation to port health activities.
2. Manage water quality in ports and on conveyances.
3. Maintain sanitation in the port and aboard vessels.
4. Conduct disease surveillance.
5. Practice food safety and quality procedures at points of entry.
6. Practice the proper procedures in the transportation of biological materials and human remains.
7. Apply the proper procedures related to public health emergencies of international concern.

This course is designed to expose students to the rigors of a full public performance of a full length play over a two/three day period by stage managing, acting, or designing which put into practice all the concepts learnt in acting and technical courses.
In Portfolio: Studio Art, students mount and present their Portfolio Exhibition. Each student exhibits a body of work that reflects the results of concerted preparation and development over the final two years of the programme. The overall exhibition, including a written statement that identifies the processes and influences involved in the development of the work, is presented to the public. Students also give an oral defense to internal and external examiners.
This course introduces students to the basic principles of post-harvest technology it allows them to be able to identify the various factors which affect the quality of fruits, vegetables and root crops. This explains the principles involved in prolonging of life of harvested fruits, vegetables and root crops. It also examines the various stages in the handling chain including packing, packaging, transportation and marketing.
This course makes a study of the Civil Rights struggle of African-American from the end of the Civil War to the 1960’s. It will examine the rights granted under the Constitution yet denied in the post-Civil War era and the political struggle that accompanied this. It continues by tracing how the rights gained during Reconstruction were eroded after 1877 with the enactment of segregation laws, by Supreme Court decisions, violence and other methods. The Black population’s response to racism will be examined by looking at the role played by black leaders, the civil rights movement and black militancy.
