This beginners' course is designed to give the students confidence in communicating with Spanish-speaking guests in situations occurring mainly in the Hospitality Industry in a Caribbean setting and to develop fluency in the use of simple language required for giving information pertinent to a guest's stay in the island.
The course addresses oral competency and aural comprehension of a limited range in the target language in common hotel situations and contexts.
Course Objectives:
• Interact appropriately with others in common situations occurring mainly in the hospitality industry.
• Use appropriate intonation and pronunciation.
• Use, for a variety of purposes, appropriate vocabulary and expressions.
• Use and manipulate learned grammatical structures.
• Make brief oral presentations on selected topics pertinent to the hospitality industry and respond to related questions.
• Demonstrate understanding of language by native speakers in common hospitality situations and contexts.
• Observe, appreciate and respect social and cultural behaviours which characterise initial communication between locals and Spanish speakers.
