This course trains students to develop the speaking and listening skills that are needed for effective communication at an Elementary Level in English. Emphasis is placed on developing oral and aural proficiency in matters of personal interest and in familiar situations.

Students identify the general classifications of data and explore the collection and usage of healthcare data. This course introduces participants to transcription equipment and typical medical dictatum. Emphasis is placed on efficient use of equipment, use of reference materials, correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling, editing, proofreading and various report formats. The course incorporates both theoretical concepts and practical application of medical transcribing. Emphasis will be placed on the quality, accuracy and comprehensiveness of transcribed medical reports. Participants will learn to recognize an acceptable format for the typing of medical reports. While transcribing, participants’ focus will be on medical terminology, reviewing of body systems and procedures as related to various healthcare documents produced by selected medical specialties.
This course is part 1 of a 2 part course, designed to be taught at the level of the C.X.C. general proficiency. No previous knowledge of physics is assumed. Topics covered include heat, temperature and thermometers, transmission of heat, expansion of solids, liquids and gases, heat capacity and latent heat, reflection and refraction of light rays, lenses and optical instruments, forces, density, pressure, machines and levers.

LITT 121 – INTRODUCTION TO DRAMA This course will explore the development of Drama from early forms (Greek plays) to modern drama, including the Broadway play. It will explore the different theatrical genres-comedy, tragedy, melodrama and farce. Students will develop an understanding of the literary techniques and devices employed in the structure of drama.
