This course covers the historical development of “Caribbean Architecture”, tracing the different cultural, colonial, climatic and architectural factors that have combined to contribute to the architectural environment past and present of the Caribbean region. Topics explored include dwellings typical of the colonial period, the chattel house, large and medium size dwellings and public and institutional buildings. It encourages students to speculate as to where Caribbean Architecture is headed.
This course examines the United States of America’s territorial expansion as well as its technological and industrial advancement in the nineteenth century. It explains how these contributed to the growth of national wealth and power. It analyzes how the vast land acquisitions in the West had disastrous consequences for the United States’ political and sectional balance and eventually led to civil war.

This calculus course focuses on differentiation and its applications. Topics covered include: differentiation as a limit; differentiation of standard functions; differentiation of sums, multiples, products, quotients and composites of functions; implicit differentiation; differentiation of parametric and logarithmic functions; l'Hôpital's rule; tangents and normals; Rolle's theorem; Mean Value theorem; maxima and minima; rates of change; marginal analysis problems; errors and estimation; Intermediate Value theorem; the Newton-Raphson method.
