This course introduces students to the different forms of energy in thermo, non-flow, open flow and steady flow systems. It examines the laws of thermodynamics, steam and two-phase systems and gases and single-phase systems. In addition, it deals with the relationship between heat and work.
This course examines the steam power plant, steam and gas turbines, the ideal gas power cycles, the internal combination engines, engine trials and combination.
This course explores the different forms of discourse and the distinctive techniques associated with each genre. Furthermore, it demonstrates the relationship between standard English and non-standard English. While highlighting socio-cultural influences on the communication process, this course underscores the importance of context in word choice. Moreover, this course reinforces conventional rules governing clarity, organisation and conciseness to enrich written and verbal expression in all aspects of life

This course is divided into 3 separate modules; popular composition, vocal methods and sound reinforcement. The popular composition and vocal methods each run for 6 weeks and the sound engineering runs for 3 weeks. A different tutor teaches each module. The popular composition module introduces song-writing concepts which are applied to various genres. The vocal methods module covers the science of singing. Some choral training is done where the class becomes the choir. The sound reinforcement module introduces sound reinforcement techniques for the small band.
This course is divided into 3 separate modules; portfolio, recording and jingle writing. The portfolio and recording modules each run for 6 weeks and the jungle writing runs for 3 weeks. A different tutor teaches each module. The portfolio module covers the planning and promotion of the class’ graduation concert. This is a practical application of material taught in music business as well as other courses. The recording module covers basic techniques in recording in analog and digitally. The jingle writing module covers the composing of jingles.
These courses cover the development of group performance skills. These include playing in tune with others, the following of cues, entries, balance, stylistic interpretation and accompanying for rhythm section players. Some stagecraft and performance etiquette for groups are explored. Cooperative learning strategies like individual responsibility to the group and commitment are introduced. Final performances are assessed in a concert setting.
Individual ensembles will explore different emphases like Caribbean styles, jazz improvisation or contemporary popular music. Descriptions of each ensemble offering will be posted each semester.
