This course covers the sight-reading of music on the student’s principle instrument. It will introduce compound time and minor keys. It will also focus on the performance of syncopated rhythms in 2/2 as found in Caribbean music. This is a continuation of Reading Lab 1 (MUSC 151) and so the skills and information learnt will be regularly incorporated so as to further develop the ability to sight-read.

It focuses on theoretical and related practical components, in order to assist participants to apply classroom concepts to on-the-job situations.
This course covers solo performance on the student’s principle instrument. Solo literature for the instrument is researched as well as the lives and contributions of renowned players. Training in stage etiquette is done. Programming and the writing of programme notes are also discussed. Each student presents a 20-minute solo recital at the end of the course.

The emphasis is placed on basic calculations involving distance, speed and force etc. to develop proficiency in calculations involving work, power and energy. It also includes basic temperature, gas laws and quantity of heat calculations to develop proficiency in heat transfer calculations. The course for this semester deals with the basic vapour compression refrigeration cycle and its accessories.
