This course introduces students to the general principles of soil science. The factors responsible for soil formation with particular reference to conditions affecting tropical soils are covered. The course focuses on factors which affect the soil’s physical, chemical and microbiological properties, as well as the need for proper soil management and better plant/soil relationship. At the end of the course there is a laboratory component.

This course introduces architecture students to the concept of Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) as an essential concern for interfacing with the built environment.
