This course aims to introduce students to the design techniques of an event driven programming language, while reinforcing the basic and advance concepts of programming, problem solving and programming logic. The course focuses on human computer interaction and usability features in designing user interfaces when creating visual basic projects.
This course is design to teach web page design from the ground up, providing every skill necessary to create great websites. Coverage includes: Using most HTML tag and attitude, working with images, setting up and manipulating tables, using frames, building and processing forms, incorporating scripts and applets, adding multimedia to pages, dynamic HTML, controlling your page’s presentation with cascading style sheets JavaScript, Choosing Web authoring tools, linking your page around the web, understanding business and design issues and publishing your site.
The course provides a concise overview of the real estate industry in Barbados. It also examines marketing and valuations as they relate to the professional scope of real estate sales. It focuses on the theoretical and practical components, in order to assist participants to apply classroom concepts to on the job situations.
This course introduces the topic of abstract data types. Students will solve problems using the most common abstract data structures: lists, stacks, queues, trees, and hash tables. Students will apply their knowledge by designing and implementing programs which use existing classes. Classic algorithms will be examined.
This course identifies and analyses various types of securities. Valuation tests for bonds/debentures and shares/stocks will be applied, and the performance of the securities markets will be gauged. The course will also examine trading in currencies and the performance of securities. Emphasis will be place on the management of investment portfolios, analysis and interpretation of financial information to maximise the efficiency of making investment decisions.
This course enables students to understand the basic concepts in financial economics applied to analyse and manage financial risks. Emphasis will be placed on the applications by insurers and pension plans. Benefits of all types of insurance will be addressed. Cash value of life insurance and mortality impact of same will be examined, as well as liability incurred from damage or destroyed property. Attention will be paid to underwriting and other basic insurance functions as well as to the aspect of finance. The course also covers evaluation cost and income. Legal, tax considerations, financial constraints, physical and location implications will also be visited.
This course provides an assessment of the forces underlying conflict and co-operation in the international system. The focus is on specific problems and the foreign policies of the major powers.
This course is designed to introduce students to the principles of irrigation and the various systems of application of water. It also focuses on the factors that affect the design and implementation of the various systems and the management of the systems. Factors that affect the availability of water and the quality of water for irrigation are also discussed. At the end of the classroom sessions, the practical components are enhanced in the field during an attachment session.

This course further develops oral skills for communication in the various sectors of the Hospitality/Tourism Industry. The course also includes a fieldwork component in tour guiding.
