This course will expand on the themes of human resource management and provide an overview of the issues facing personnel and human resource specialist. It will cover topics of recruitment and selection, training and development, grading and grade drift as well as other broader issues connected with remuneration, equality opportunity, disciplinary matters and redundancy.
Human Resource management has grown in importance because of a shift to a services –oriented global economy. Human capital plays a key role in creating and sustaining competitive advantage for business organizations. As a result, this course will expose students to the important activities of people management such as the evolution and stages of human resource management, strategic human resource planning, recruitment and selection, training and development recruitment and selection, compensation management, performance appraisal, job analysis and job evaluation and industrial relations.
This course is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of human resource management and an overview of the skills necessary to effectively manage human resources. The course is divided into five modules. First, we will begin with an introduction of why human resource management matters in today’s business world. We will also discuss how employee performance and effectiveness; the implementation of staffing and talent management practices.

This course is designed to expose students to the various types of testing required to ensure that the transfusion of blood or its components is safe and beneficial to the recipient.
This is the study of cellular and humoral immune system as they function to form the body’s defence mechanism. This study includes the theories and concepts as they relate to the nature of antigens, the formation and structure of antibodies, and role of the complement system. The serological techniques used in the laboratory will also be discussed.
This course covers the concepts of jazz improvisation and focuses on the skills required to improvise. Scales and models are used as a primary source of creative ideas. Strategies for practicing improvisation are also introduced.
This course applies various fundamental concepts in physical and inorganic chemistry to industrial processes. Description of properties of selected elements and their compounds, as well as methods used in industrial production of these substances is covered. Along with a description of the industrial procedures, there is also an examination of the environmental concerns associated with the use and production of these substances.
This course exposes students to the applications of laboratory methods and organic chemistry in industrial technologies. Emphasis is placed on the methodologies used to ensure quality control of the product.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Information Communication Technology (ICT) is intended to provide the student with a understanding of the world of computers and Information Communication Technologies commonly in use for personal and commercial value today around the world. From this course, the student will develop their skills in the application of productive and design software by using word processing software to create common documents, to produce properly structured and formatted business documents; using spreadsheet software to perform a variety of financial tasks and using database software to perform various tasks such as database creation, queries, forms and reports. The areas of ICT and their application to industry will also be studied.
As well, thise course includes technology training that aligns with the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications.You will be assessed against units from the Caribbean Vocational Qualifications (CVQs) which are applicable to your course.Assessment would include practical demonstration through a simulation. A range of methods to assess underpinning knowledge would support this assessment. At the completion of this assessment courses, the learner should be able to become fully competent in the standards required.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The goals of the training course are through the integration of technology to:
(1) use differentiated forms of teaching, evaluating and assessing learners in Microsoft 2007 Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access);
(2) engage learners in self-study, discussions, emailed communications and other interactive learning experiences as a means of completing their course of study in Microsoft 2007 Office Suite;
(3) assess learners’ coursework by means of continuous assessments, performance assessments, examinations and class participation.
