This course enables students to understand the basic concepts in financial economics applied to analyse and manage financial risks. Emphasis will be placed on the applications by insurers and pension plans. Benefits of all types of insurance will be addressed. Cash value of life insurance and mortality impact of same will be examined, as well as liability incurred from damage or destroyed property. Attention will be paid to underwriting and other basic insurance functions as well as to the aspect of finance. The course also covers evaluation cost and income. Legal, tax considerations, financial constraints, physical and location implications will also be visited.
