This course introduces mechanical engineering students to the requirements of plant maintenance, providing knowledge and skills in handling, installing and testing of machinery and machine tools.  The topics covered include lifting devices, slinging materials and methods, construction of foundations, machine installation and power transmission systems and devices, structure of maintenance organizations and storage and stock control arrangements.

This course introduces students to the basic principles of the biology of plants and the application of these principles to agriculture. The course involves both theoretical and practical laboratory components.

Power transmission systems and bearings are integral components to modern industrial operations. This course permits students to build on the introductory knowledge gain from Plant Maintenance Theory1 by focusing on the more common Power Transmission systems presently employed in industry. It also exposes the student to various types of bearings and they applications. The target group of this course is those persons who are interesting in pursuing a career as a mechanical fitter.

This entry-level course focuses on the legal requirements of both the employee and employer as it relates to health and safety.
